Unforgettable adventure
This period marks the end of Kaamos, or Polar Night, when the sun is only just beginning to return above the horizon. Daylight is limited to around three magical hours around midday, creating soft pastel skies, long Arctic twilights and wonderfully atmospheric winter scenery. Activities may take place in the morning, early afternoon or later in the day, allowing you to experience both the beauty of Lapland’s returning light and the deep darkness that creates excellent opportunities to see the Northern Lights.
Late December and January are typically the coldest months in Lapland, with temperatures often falling between -20°C and -40°C. Due to these extreme conditions, we recommend this break for children aged six and over.
Start the Year Somewhere Extraordinary
We offer four distinct Lapland breaks, each designed to suit a different style of travel. Some combine included Arctic activities with some free time to explore the wider area, whether that means skiing, fat biking, visiting the toboggan park or simply slowing down and relaxing. Others follow a fuller itinerary, bringing together the classic experiences of Lapland at an easy, unhurried pace. For guests aged 16 and over, Nivunki Village offers something more remote and secluded, with longer safaris and a deeper sense of wilderness.

Welcome the New Year with husky rides, snowmobile adventures and a visit to SnowVillage. Then celebrate beneath the Arctic sky in one of Lapland’s most beautiful winter settings.
Jänkä Ranch Break
Celebrate New Year at Jänkä Ranch with husky and reindeer safaris, a snowmobile adventure and a peaceful horse-drawn sleigh ride. On New Year’s Eve, enjoy fireworks in nearby Äkäslompolo and, with luck, the Northern Lights overhead.
Riekko Lodge Break
Welcome the New Year at Riekko Lodge with husky and reindeer safaris, a snowmobile adventure and time to enjoy the snowy surroundings of Äkäslompolo. As midnight approaches, watch fireworks light up the village and, with luck, the Northern Lights appear above.
Nivunki Village
Escape to secluded Nivunki Village for longer husky, reindeer and snowmobile safaris, together with a dedicated Northern Lights adventure. Stay in a glass kota beneath exceptionally dark skies, surrounded by the peace and beauty of the Arctic wilderness.
